M. Y. Valencia Parroquín is a Mexican author whose work explores the quiet intersections of memory, loss, restoration, and the enduring presence of hope through fiction. Born in Mexico City, she studied International Relations before pursuing her lifelong passion for storytelling.
She is the author of Serie Vivos, a fantasy saga originally published in Spanish, including the novels Desterrados, Vivos, and Valientes. The series is now reaching English-speaking readers through Memoirs of the Living, beginning with Swept Far, the English edition of Desterrados.
At the heart of her stories lies a world where perception and reality blur, where ordinary lives collide with unseen realms, and where survival, brokenness, and restoration meet in ways capable of changing those willing to keep moving forward. What began as unforgettable dreams filled with adventure and a collection of experiences she could never quite leave behind gradually evolved into a narrative universe rich with danger, beauty, wonder, and hope.
M. Y. Valencia is also the voice behind Sheltered From The Storm (Protegida de la Tormenta), the project from which this website takes its name.
Signing each post as either “Sheltered From The Storm” or “Protegida de la Tormenta,” she maintains a gentle distinction between the author and the young woman behind the stories.
